About Law Firm Rankings

Someone looking for an injury lawyer in Melbourne is usually comparing marketing, not firms. Search results are dominated by advertising spend, directory listings sell placement, and “best of” lists rarely explain what made one firm better than another.

This site takes the opposite approach. Nine criteria are defined in advance, each firm is rated against every applicable criterion, and each claim type applies its own weights. The weights, the ratings and the arithmetic are all published, so a reader who disagrees with a conclusion can see precisely which input produced it.

The criteria were chosen from the questions clients actually ask at the start of a claim: what this will cost me, who will actually run my file, and whether the firm will keep going if the insurer says no.

Law Firm Rankings publishes this site. No firm pays to be listed, ranked or removed, and the entire scoring model is published rather than summarised: the reader can check the weights, see the criterion-level ratings for every firm, and form their own view.

The site carries no advertising, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links and no paid directory listings. No firm has paid, or can pay, to be added to a ranking, to move up one, or to be removed from one. Outbound links to assessed firms are marked nofollow so that a listing confers no ranking benefit in search engines.

Running costs are met by the publisher. There is no external funding, and no commercial relationship with any firm assessed.

Assessments are made by experienced Victorian legal practitioners using publicly available material: firm websites and published costs disclosures, reported decisions of the Victorian courts, VCAT and Medical Panel material, professional directories and public client reviews. The sources are described in more detail on the methodology page.

Every firm is rated against the same criterion definitions, and a rating is only recorded where there is material to support it. Nothing on this site is generated from a firm’s own marketing claims alone.

Rankings are general information about firms, not legal advice about a claim, and they are not a recommendation to retain any particular firm. Whether a firm suits your matter depends on facts this site does not know.

Any firm listed can ask for its assessment to be reviewed. Send the correction and the supporting material through the contact form. Accepted corrections are applied to the criterion rating, which flows through to every category score the firm appears in, and the review date is updated.

Readers who believe a criterion is measuring the wrong thing are welcome to use the same form. The methodology is versioned by review date, and material changes to the model are noted when they are made.
